My Dad's Gentle Nudge Forward
Tao of Photography &bull Dec 11, 2011
People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances without own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel… Full Story »

The "Four Marks" of the Mystic State
Tao of Photography &bull Dec 3, 2011
Ineffability - The handiest of the marks by which I classify a state of mind as mystical is negative. The subject of it immediately says that it defies expression, that no adequate report of its contents can be given in words. Noetic Quality - Although so similar to states of feeling, mystical states seem to those who experience them… Full Story »

The printing technology used was developed by ZINK Imaging, a company built on the foundation of technologies and assets purchased after Polaroid itself filed for bankruptcy. Zink is home to quite a few… Full Story »

Pikes, Minnows, and Parks (and a Lesson, Oh My)
Tao of Photography &bull Oct 30, 2011
During a visit to see my mom on Long Island the other week, my younger son and I stumbled across a beautiful park - no more than a stone's throw away from the house I grew up in - that I never knew existed! Well, I knew of the place, and of its beauty, but not of the park's presence. And therein lies an important lesson that owes its origin to pikes and minnows. Years ago, I read of an experiment in which some biologists used cameras to record the actions of a large northern pike inside of an aquarium… Full Story »

Mitchell Feinberg's 810 Digital Capture Back
A Photo Editor &bull Aug 23, 2011
When I talked to Mitchell Feinberg recently he mentioned that he owned the world's largest non-scanning color sensor array, something he created so that he could continue to shoot 810 film without Polaroid. Normally I avoid anything to do with equipment but this sounded interesting.
